Middlesex Movers provides non-binding estimates for long distance moves. A non-binding estimate is an approximation of the cost based on the mover's survey of the items to be moved, with the final cost determined after the shipment is weighed and any additional services have been provided, including any services that may be required at destination. Non-binding estimates are based on the actual weight and actual services provided on your shipment.
Moving more than 100 miles from your origin and/or moving that crosses a state line is considered a long distance move. The two factors that determine your moving cost, is the distance you are moving, and the weight of your shipment.
In addition to transportation charges, extra factors that can affect the price of your move include:
The mover needs to use stairs, elevator, long carry, or a small shuttle vehicle, etc.
Additional valuation is required.
The mover needs to pack your delicate items.
If you need storage (1 free complimentary month/move) for your items, while you are looking for a new place, or getting settled into your new location.
Our goal is always to provide you with a gratified service on your important and special moving day.

How is the cost estimate determined on a long distance move?
Middlesex Movers use a base rate book published in our GMVL - 1000. The Tariff GMVL - 1000 system, provides estimates for all long distance moving transactions based on the weight of your belongings and on the distance they are shipped, plus the amount of packing and other services that you require. The weight of your items is actually measured on a scale. Only, the scale is for the truck. Before the move, the weight of the truck without your goods is measured. This is called "empty weight". The scales are usually located at the nearest truck stops. You are allowed to accompany the driver to the scale during the weigh-in to ensure that everything is in order. Make sure that your mover provides you with an "empty weight" receipt.
Introducing GMVL 1000 — It's Simpler.
On May 4, 2007, the Surface Transportation Board (STB) ruled that carriers of household goods must each publish their own, independently determined tariffs. Accordingly, the joint ratemaking agreement of the Household Goods Carriers' Bureau Committee (HGCBC) expires at midnight on December 31. The current tariff, 400-N, will no longer be the basis for pricing development. On January 1, 2008, Middlesex Movers will introduce a new, proprietary tariff: GMVL 1000.
